Experimental learning-A solution to rote education

As discussed by me in the previous blogs rote learning is much hazardous and it plagues the Indian education system. But what if we try a little and find a solution to this problem..??

*Experimental learning* It is the practice of learning through doing. It encourages the student to have first-hand experiences with the materials, rather than learning through someone else’s experiences in textbook or lecture. These processes boost student engagement, accelerating learning and improving content retention and consequently boosts the overall development of a child at early ages.

Students who are engaged and learning actively are less likely to become bored and disinterested and once the seed of experimental learning gets sowed in the mind of children it results in a healthy plant of knowledge..!!!Well-planned, supervised and assessed experiential learning programs can stimulate academic inquiry by promoting interdisciplinary learning, civic engagement, career development, cultural awareness, leadership, and other professional and intellectual skills.

The application of knowledge to a “real world” setting surely gives fruitful results. Experiential learning encourages an approach to learning that moves away from just the teacher at the front of the room imparting and transferring their knowledge to students. It makes learning an experience that moves beyond the classroom and strives to bring a more involved way of learning.

When compared experimental learning with academic learning we can clearly see that academic learning is simply the process of acquiring information through the study of a subject without the necessity for direct experience. While the dimensions of experiential learning are analysis, initiative, and immersion, the dimensions of academic learning are constructive learning and reproductive learning. Though both methods aim to instill new knowledge in the learner, academic learning does so through more a, classroom-based techniques, whereas experiential learning actively involves the learner in a concrete experience.
